3D Scanning
3D Scanning is a versatile technology used to digitally capture the shape and appearance of physical objects. It can be implemented through various methods, including photogrammetry, which analyzes differences across multiple images to generate a model, and structured light, which directly measures depth to create a 3D representation. These approaches enable precise modeling for a wide range of applications, such as part modification, spatial simulation, and motion tracking. Whether for engineering, design, or visualization, 3D scanning provides a powerful way to bridge the physical and digital worlds.
Tech Kits
Tech Kits are part of the walk-in service provided by Innovate Labs. There are three levels of difficulty meant for different users and their experience with the different technologies. Many of the Tech Kits build off each other as you progress.
Beginner
QLONE
Length: 45 Minutes
Description: Qlone is a mobile 3D scanning app that uses a printed mat and your smartphone camera to capture the shape and texture of real-world objects. It introduces the concept of photogrammetry, where multiple images are processed to create a digital model. This approach offers a hands-on way to explore how physical items can be transformed into interactive 3D assets. The process is intuitive and accessible, making it a great entry point for experimenting with design, animation, or prototyping using everyday tools.
Intermediate
Dual-axis Turntable
Length: 45 Minutes
Description: A dual-axis turntable involves capturing detailed digital representations of physical objects by rotating them along two axes to ensure comprehensive coverage. This method enhances the accuracy and completeness of scans, making it useful for applications such as product design, reverse engineering, and digital archiving. The technology integrates hardware like structured light scanners and software for processing and refining the scanned data, enabling users to create precise 3D models that can be analyzed, modified, or reproduced through 3D printing.
Advanced
Revopoint POP 2
Length: 45 Minutes
Description: The Revopoint POP 2 scanner combines high-resolution structured light technology with real-time data processing to create accurate digital models of physical objects. This system captures fine details and textures, making it suitable for applications like industrial design, medical modeling, and digital preservation. The scanner’s portability and precision allow users to scan objects of various sizes and materials, while integrated software helps refine and export the models for use in virtual environments or 3D printing.
