3D Modeling

3D modelling is the process of describing objects mathematically in 3 dimensions. 3D Modelers can make an object from an abstract idea or 2D directions. These technologies are useful for companies to create products that can be manufactured in the real world. 3D models can further be printed, proving to be useful for companies to prototype a new product quickly.

Tech Kits

Tech Kits are part of the walk-in service provided by Innovate Labs. There are three levels of difficulty meant for different users and their experience with the different technologies. Many of the Tech Kits build off each other as you progress.

Beginner

Tinkercad

Length: 30-60 Minutes

Description: Tinkercad is a beginner-friendly online platform that introduces users to 3D modeling by allowing them to create digital designs using simple geometric shapes. It operates through a browser and provides an intuitive interface where users can drag, resize, and combine objects to build models. These designs can be used for various applications such as prototyping, engineering, or 3D printing. The platform emphasizes spatial reasoning and creativity, making it accessible for those exploring design and technology for the first time.

Intermediate

SolidWorks

Length: 30-60 Minutes

Description: SolidWorks is a computer-aided design (CAD) software used to create detailed 3D models of physical objects. It enables users to design, simulate, and visualize components and assemblies in a virtual environment, which helps streamline the engineering and manufacturing process. Through intuitive tools and features, SolidWorks supports the development of prototypes and final products across industries such as automotive, aerospace, and consumer goods. Its practical application includes designing parts with precise dimensions, testing how they fit together, and predicting how they will perform under real-world conditions.

Advanced

SolidWorks Assemblies and Simulations

Length: 30-60 Minutes

Description: Advanced assemblies and simulations use digital tools to model real-world systems, enabling users to visualize and test how components interact before physical construction. These technologies combine computer-aided design (CAD) with simulation software to replicate mechanical, electrical, or structural behaviors under various conditions. In practical terms, they help engineers and designers optimize performance, identify potential issues, and improve efficiency in fields like manufacturing, architecture, and robotics. By simulating scenarios such as stress tests or motion paths, users can refine designs and make informed decisions using virtual prototypes.
